Social media is defined as a group of Internet-based applications that build on the ideological and technological foundations of Web 2.0 and that allow the creation and exchange of user-generated content. To put it in simple terms, it is a place where we can share our photos, memes, and videos with our friends and family. Social media allows certain videos and memes to go viral, as they are shared more and more around the world. From Facebook to Twitter, social media allows users to keep in contact with friends and family without actually seeing them in person and allows users to stand up for something they believe in.
